PM Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi will visit Chhattisgarh on Sunday in the wake of the Maoist attack that left 17 persons, including state party leaders dead. Meanwhile, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has already reached Raipur. Heavily-armed Maoists ambushed a convoy of Congress leaders inside a dense forest in Chhattisgarh's Bastar district on Saturday, killing at least 17 people, including senior Congress leader Mahendra Karma.
The Maoists also killed PCC chief Nand Kumar Patel and his son Dinesh in Darba Gati Valley near Jagdalpur, headquarters of Bastar district. Minister of state for Home R P N Singh is leaving for the Maoist attack site in Jagdalpur on Sunday as Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde is now abroad. Home Ministry officials briefed Shinde about the incident.
