Dr. Raman Singh sworn in as chief minister of Chhattisgarh for the third consecutive term. 61-year old Singh was administered the oath of office and secrecy by governor Shekhar Dutt during a grand swearing-in ceremony at the Police Parade Ground, where tight security arrangements were put in place. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by BJP president Rajnath Singh, senior party leader LK Advani, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, among others.
The BJP registered a thumping victory by winning 49 of the 90 seats, one less from its 2008 figure, while the Congress managed to win 39 Assembly seats. Rest of the two seats went to BSP and an Independent each. Singh now joins the club of BJP chief ministers who have scored hat-tricks in their respective states.
